William "Bill" Walker was a notable muralist from Chicago. He was one of the founders of the Organization of Black American Culture (OBAC) and one of the leaders in the project involving the Wall of Respect (1967) - a short-lived but influential community mural thathonored African American heroes, on 43rd St. and Langley Ave on the South Side of Chicago. He additionally worked as a decorative painter and a postal worker in Chicago for many decades.

The 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, was a pivotal Civil Rights gathering of over 250,000 people in Washington, DC., at which Martin. Luther King Jr. gave his legendary "I Have a Dream" speech.
