Fidelis Joseph's practice reflects proximal distances between his life in Nigeria and the United States. His brother, a soldier in the Nigerian military, received a medal for his service combating the violent insurgent group Boko Haram in Northeastern Nigeria. The distortion in Joseph's paintings resonates with the interplay of familial pride and fear of loss. Joseph was the recipient of the top prize in his graduating class at Cranbrook Academy of Art, and is currently a Fellow at NXTHVN.
