Aura Satz works in film, sound, performance and sculpture, in order to conceptualize a distributed, expanded and shared notion of voice. She explores various sound technologies, and ways in which these might resist standardization, generating new soundscapes, and in turn new forms of listening. In her investigations of the history of media and the continuous advancements in technology, she often examines the understated role of female figures in technological and scientific fields. Satz’s solo exhibitions and performances include Fridman Gallery, New York (2018); Dallas Contemporary, US (2016); John Hansard Gallery, Southampton, UK (2015); George Eastman Museum, Rochester NY (2015); Gallery 44, Toronto (2014); Tate Modern, London (2012); and Wellcome Collection, London (2010). Her work has also been featured in many group exhibitions, including Kunsthal Rotterdam, Rotterdam (2019); High Line Art, New York (2018); InterCommunication Center, Tokyo (2017–2018); Lentos Museum, Linz, Austria (2017–2018); IMMA, Dublin (2017); The Sydney Biennale, Sydney (2016); Hayward Gallery, London (2014-15); and Baltic, Newcastle (2014). Her films have screened at multiple international film festivals and museums such as MoMA (NY), SFMOMA, (San Francisco), Tate Britain (London), Whitechapel Gallery (London), and many more. Satz was a recipient of the Henry Moore Post-Doctoral Sculpture Fellowship, hosted at the Slade School of Fine Art, London (2002–2005). In 2012, she was shortlisted for the Samsung Art+ Award and the Jarman Award.
