Fridman Gallery is pleased to present new works by Nate Lewis, Remy Jungerman and Laurena Finéus at the inaugural edition of The Armory Show, 2026.

Nate Lewis’ signature paper-carving techniques explore connections among the visual languages of dance, anatomy, medical diagnostics, and weather-pattern data. Through this process, he raises questions about the interrelatedness of physical movement, history, and healing, particularly, though not exclusively, within the context of African diasporic art and culture.

Laurena Finéus captures a liminal, evolving landscape as a metaphor for our enduring quest for freedom. Her layered surfaces, rendered in oils, ink, pigment, and acrylic on canvas, mimic the lush, rugged terrain and dense forests found in Maroon geographies, made treacherous by seasonal rains, flooding, and poor infrastructure.

For over three decades, Remy Jungerman has explored the intersection of Surinamese Maroon culture, the African diaspora, and 20th-century Modernism. His work incorporates cotton textiles, kaolin clay (pimba), and wood—materials central to the Afro-Surinamese Winti religion. Using ritual textiles and gridded compositions, he reflects on spiritual symbolism and the elemental forces of water, earth, air, and forest.
